How To Get A Pennsylvania Drivers License

In order to obtain a Pennsylvania driver’s license, you must first get an Initial Learner’s Permit. To do so, you must have a physical examination conducted and complete a Non Commercial Learner’s Permit Application, which is also known as a Form DL-180. The form is available here. You must then complete a DL-180TD form if you are under the age of 18. You will then need to show documentation to prove your identity along with your social security card. You will then need to take an eye test and then a PA Driving Knowledge Test. Upon passing both of these, you will obtain your Initial Learner’s Permit. Once you have your Initial Learner’s Permit, you will need to log 65 hours of adult-supervised driving, including 10 hours of nighttime driving and 5 hours of bad weather driving. Once this is completed, you must then schedule a road test.

Pass The Test

How To Pass the Pennsylvania Driver's License Test

To pass the PA permit test, you will need to be prepared. Study the read the Pennsylvania Drivers’ Manual and take notes on critical sections. As you study the manual you can begin to gauge your progress by taking a Pennsylvania permit practice test like the one available on this site. You can also take our road signs practice test if you want to improve your knowledge of those.

It's important to understand you don’t need to score 100% to pass. You’ll likely run into a question or two that you’re unsure of the answer to. When this happens, try to eliminate the least likely answers and narrow them down to the most reasonable options and make an educated guess. One or two wrong answers won’t stop you from passing, so stay focused even if you hit one or two tough questions.
