You will also have to pass a vision test and a written 24 multiple choice question test with an 84 percent or better. You can have the test read to you, and there are interpreters available if you need them.
If you fail, you have to wait 10 days to retake it and pay a $2.00 fee every time. You will need to complete 40 hours of supervised driving, with 10 hours being driven at night with a driver that is at least 21 years old and has their license in good standing.
To obtain your provisional license, you must be 15 years and 6 months old, completed and documented your hours, and have had your learner’s permit for 6 months. Submit a form that states you completed a driver’s education course and had satisfactory school attendance as well. Bring proof of citizenship, your social security card, and your parent or guardian. If you are new to South Carolina, you must go to the DMV in person and surrender your old license. You will have to take a vision test, but the written knowledge test, the road test will be waived if your license is valid. You will pay a $20 fee to switch your license.

  • Don’t panic if you hit a question or two you’re not sure about. Remember, you don’t need to get 100%, you just need to pass. Take your time reading the question and narrow down the answers to as few options as possible and make an educated guess if you’re unsure.
  • Set yourself up for success. Wear something comfortable on exam day. Lay out your clothes the night before so you feel good while you take the test. Have your paperwork ready to go the night before as well, which should in turn help you get a good night’s sleep. If you show up feeling relaxed and confident it will show in your results.
