How To Get A Pennsylvania Motorcycle License

Obtaining a driver license with a Class M endorsement in Pennsylvania requires that you pass a couple of tests before you can hit the road. The first exam you’ll take is the basic motorcycle knowledge test and apply for a Class M learner’s permit at PennDOT (Department of Transportation). Once you have obtained the permit, you can schedule your on-cycle skills test.

If you decide to take a state Motorcycle Safety Program and successfully pass that, your skills test will be waived. Anyone who is under 18 will need to have their learner’s permit for a minimum of 6 months in addition to 65 hours of supervised riding before he/she can schedule the on-cycle skills test. Both of these exams will test the driver’s knowledge and skill of what it takes to operate a motorcycle in the state of Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program is for drivers of all skill levels, from aspiring new riders to advanced riders. The training courses offer both classroom and on-cycle instruction so students will learn what it takes to operate a motorcycle. Those who successfully complete these courses, including the skills evaluation at the end of the class, will have their skills test waived to obtain the M endorsement on their driver license. You can sign up for available courses on their website and get more information on the program.

If you are already a licensed motorcycle rider in another state and are looking to transfer your license to Pennsylvania, you can do so by gathering the information needed to obtain a Pennsylvania M endorsement and apply. If you have further questions, you can contact your local PennDOT office.

Pennsylvania Motorcycle License Test Tips

If you are already a licensed motorcycle rider in another state and are looking to transfer your license to Pennsylvania, you can do so by gathering the information needed to obtain a Pennsylvania M endorsement and apply. If you have further questions, you can contact your local PennDOT office.

You will want to spend some extra time practicing for your on-cycle skills test that will take about 15-20 minutes. The examiner will test your ability to follow directions, how you maneuver while driving, and adjusting speeds. You also want to perfect your ability to make sharp turns, stopping, and accelerating. You may also be asked to successfully pass an obstacle course. Scheduling your skills test can be done by finding a driver license center near you on PennDOT’s website.
