How To Get A Idaho Drivers License

In Idaho, driver’s licenses are administered by the Idaho Transportation Department. Those in Idaho may apply for a driver’s license any county sheriff’s offices that provide driver licensing services.

Drivers must be 14 ½ years old to be eligible to obtain a Driver Training/Supervised Instruction Permit. Permit holders may be 14 ½ to 17 ½ years of age.Those applicants who are 17 years age or older may take driver’s training with a Driver Training/Supervised Instruction Permit or a Class D Instruction Permit Applicants must pass the knowledge test before a Class D Instruction Permit can be issued. Those that are under 17 years of age must go through the Graduated License program. Included in this is the completion of an approved driver education class, have 6 months of supervised driving with 50 hours, 10 of which must be at night. Applicants must also pass the written knowledge and road skills tests. A parent or legal guardian must sign a Graduated Driver’s License statement acknowledging that certifies the 50 hours of supervised driving time and grants permission for the license t be issued.Within the supervised driving time, candidates must have a supervising driver accompanying while driving, and that supervising driver must be 21 years of age or over and possess a valid driver’s license.

As you prepare for your driver’s test, some helpful things to keep in mind:

  • Practice safe driving. Take advantage of the 50 hours of supervised driving time to develop good driving habits. For those that are practicing with their learner’s license then take advantage of your driving hours to develop good driving habits.
