Motorcycle License

How To Get A Wyoming Motorcycle License

Before you go around and ride on a motorcycle in the state of Wyoming you first need to get the right licensing. Only those with a class M license are certified to drive a motorcycle on the roads without any restrictions. These full driving privileges can be given to someone as young as 16 ½ as long as they had completed a qualifying driving education and previously held an intermediate license. Intermediate motorcycle licensing is available to those as young as 16 and have restriction on what they can do, while instructional permits can be obtained at 15. In order to get a class M certification persons must be able to pass both a written knowledge test and a skills test, and also pass a vision test and prove residency.

For residents who have just moved, or are considering a move to the State of Wyoming, you are able to waive the licensing requirements if you already of a motorcycle certification from another state. This must be done within one year of moving to Wyoming. To make the transfer visit your local Wyoming DMV office.

Wyoming has set up a couple of certified courses for those that want more intimate knowledge with motorcycle safety and operation. The Basic Rider Courses (BRC) is designed for those with little to no riding experience and involves 20 hours of instruction both in the classroom and on the motorcycle. Advanced Basic Rider Courses (BRC2) is also available for those who have around three or more months of experience and have completed the BRC. Multiple schools and locations allow for these courses with a list of them located here.

Wyoming Motorcycle License Test Tips

In the knowledge portion of the exam, you will be expected to properly identify traffic signals, pavement marking, traffic signs, and correctly answer everything related to traffic laws and safety rules. The purpose of this test is to make sure you are familiar with the rules of the road so you can follow them. The resources available on this site, when combined with the licensing manual, will ensure that you'll be able to pass this part of the test with ease.

After passing the knowledge portion of the exam you will have to show a physical demonstration that you are competent enough to drive a motorcycle by yourself. In the skills test, you will have around 10 to 15 minutes to demonstrate your capabilities by following a series of simple but integral instructions. Expect to show the proper technique in breaking, parking, accelerating, and turning to name a few. Test sites include anywhere the Wyoming Department of Transportation is located.
