Those that are seeking a motorcycle permit or license or a moped license in Kentucky must pass a motorcycle knowledge test as a part of the application process. Our sample tests are based on the one you will take at the Circuit Court Clerk's office, with the only difference being that you can take ours as many times as you like. Before you take your test you should first take a look through the Kentucky Motorcycle Manual which you can pick up at your local DMV or download online. How To Get A Kentucky Motorcycle License

Taking a ride on your motorcycle can be a freeing experience but also illegal unless you have the proper credentials. A motorcycle endorsement in the state of Kentucky isn’t just given out though, with applicants having to pass both a knowledge and on-cycle skills test first. Before taking the skills portion of the test you must have the associated instructional permit which is given out after successful completion of the knowledge exam.

Permits are restricted to those 18 years or older, with applicants under the age of 18 need a parent or legal guardian to sign off.

Those taking an on-cycle skills test must provide a motorcycle, proof of insurance, along with approved safety gear like a helmet, long sleeves, pants, and so forth. Applicants must take the test in the county they are currently residing in.

The Kentucky Motorcycle Safety Education Program (MSEP) was designed to give people a proper understanding in how a motorcycle functions, what proper skills are needed to operate one safely, and just a general understanding of correct traffic behavior. These courses are divided into both classroom study sessions and a series of hands-on demonstrations that will give you practical experience behind the bars of the motorcycle. There are many skill levels of classes with providers all over the state for you to choose from. Once completed you’ll get a certification that can be given to your local County Clerk’s Office proving you are eligible for a motorcycle endorsement.

If you have just moved to the state of Kentucky and already have a motorcycle endorsement from another state you may be able to waive any testing. Get in contact with your local DMV for more details.

Kentucky Motorcycle License Test Tips

The first part of the exam you need to pass to get your motorcycle endorsement and earn your learner's permit is the knowledge portion. This test is composed of 25 multiple choice questions of which 20 must be answered correctly. In this test, you can expect to go through everything related to your motorcycle, proper safety techniques, and basic operation. Using this website's practice test in conjunction with the official operator's manual will ensure that you know all the ins and outs of this knowledge exam.

The skills portion of your motorcycle endorsement will show the state of Kentucky that all your practice has paid off. During the test, you will be teamed up with an examiner who will give you a series of instructions that you must complete. Basic skills like turning, stopping, and accelerating will be covered. More advanced techniques will involve swerving and quick stops. To set up an examination you must get in contact with your local Circuit Clerk's Office. A list of these offices can be found here.
