To be a licensed rider you’ll need to earn a regular class R license, and then a motorcycle endorsement on top of that license. To do so, you’ll need to complete a written knowledge test as well as a road test where you’ll need to demonstrate your skills. Applicants that are 17 and 18 will need a parent or guardian’s signature and proof of a finished driver’s training program before being eligible to take the endorsement test.

You may be able to waive the written and skills portion of the exam if you already have a valid license from another state. Contact the nearest DPS location for more details.
