Drivers License

How To Get An Oregon Drivers License

Oregon has a two-step process for getting your full driver’s license. First, you have to apply for your instruction permit and provide proof you are enrolled or have completed a driver’s education course. You must bring a parent or guardian to the DMV and fill out the permit application. They will co-sign this application for you. You can get your permit when you turn 15. You must supply a social security card and proof of your current address. The next step is passing a vision test, then a 35 question written knowledge test with 80 percent or higher (28 correct answers or better). There is also a short road sign test, which you must pass with a 75 percent or greater. Special accommodations for interpreters and an oral examination can be arranged with prior notice, and the test can be done in eight languages. If you fail, you can retake the test in 5 days with an additional $5 fee per test. A $54 fee applies and must be paid before you take the test. You must log 50 supervised, documented hours of driving time, with 10 hours being night driving. Your supervising adult must be 21 or older and have their license in good standing.Once you have held your permit for a minimum of six months and turned, you can apply for your full license. You must pass a road skill test and pay a fee of $15 per test if you fail. You may retake the test every ten days. If you pass, there is a $60 license fee, and you will be issued a temporary license until your permanent one is mailed. If you have just moved to Oregon, you have 60 days to switch your license over. You go to the DMV and present your old license along with proof of residency, a social security card, and proof of insurance. You must take a vision test and a knowledge exam. If your license is current, the driver’s skill test will be waived.
