How To Get A Rhode Island Motorcycle License

If you are interested in obtaining a motorcycle license to legally drive on the streets of Rhode Island, there are a few steps you will need to take. Rhode Island requires that all applicants complete a motorcycle safety course at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). After successfully completing and passing the course, you can apply for a motorcycle permit. The permit will need to be held for 30 days before you can return to a Rhode Island DMV (Division of Motor Vehicles) location to receive your motorcycle license. Anyone who is 16-18 years old will need to also complete 33 hours of driver education course to apply for a Rhode Island permit.

If you are new to Rhode Island, or will be moving to Rhode Island in the near future and already hold a motorcycle license from another state, you can convert your existing license. Your knowledge and on-skills test will be waived. For more information, visit the Rhode Island DMV website for more information.

You will be required to take a Motorcycle Rider Education course at the Community College of Rhode Island to obtain your motorcycle license. These training classes will provide you with the knowledge you need about safely riding and operating your bike. If you successfully complete this course, you will have your knowledge and on-skills test waived when you bring in the certificate to your local DMV to apply for your motorcycle permit. You can view their website for class availability and more information.
