How To Get A Montana Drivers License

In order to apply for a driving permit in Montana you must be 14 1/2 years of age and enrolled in a traffic education program that is approved by the state. You will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Testing is administered at your local Montana Department of Motor Vehicles office. You must provide proof of your identity, residency, authorized presence and parental consent if you are under 18.You will be required to take a vision test. You should wear any corrective lenses during the exam. You will not be required to take a physical but you will be asked medical-related questions. After you receive your driving permit, you must hold it for at least 6 months. You will need to work on getting at least 50 hours of driving practice experience while supervised by a licensed driver if you are under 18 years of age.There are 33 questions on the exam that may cover any part of the Montana manual. Pay particular attention to information such as lengths, distances, measurements and speeds. You must correctly answer 27 of the 33 questions to pass the test. If you do not pass the test, you will be able to take it again the next day.

The testing fee for a Montana driver’s permit is $5.00.A valid learner’s permit from another state will be accepted in Montana for 60 days as long as they are accompanied by a licensed driver. If you have a driver’s license from another state, the examiner will decide if you need to take the road test. You may drive in Montana with your out of state driver’s license as long as it is valid or until you establish residency. You must obtain a Montana driver’s license within 60 days of establishing residency.
