Drivers License

How To Get A Connecticut Drivers License

In Connecticut, driver’s license regulations are regulated by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles. Anyone who operates a motor vehicle in the state of Connecticut must possess a license. Those that are 16 or 17 years old must go through the process of obtaining a learner’s permit ahead of applying for a driver’s license. Once you provide the proper documentation, including having a parent or legal guardian sign a consent form. Candidates will then take a 25 question test and a vision test. Once this is completed, teen drivers can sign up for a driver’s education course.

Teen drivers must also log 40 hours of drive time before being eligible for going to apply for their license. At this time, candidates can apply for their driving test at their local DMV. While driving with their learner’s permit, teenagers may only have passengers in the car that are either, their driving instructor, a parent or legal guardian, or a passenger who is 20 years old or older who is providing instruction, who has had a license for 4 years and who has not had a driver’s license suspended in 4 years. Those applicants who are 18 years or older must possess a learner’s permit for 90 days prior to taking their road driver’s test.

Road testing is offered at the following DMV office locations in Connecticut:

  • Bridgeport
  • Danbury
  • Enfield
  • Hamden
  • Old Saybrook
  • Waterbury
  • Wethersfield
