How To Get An Ohio Drivers License
If you are an Ohio teen-aged 15 and a half or older, you must visit the BMV with proof of id, residency, birth date, and legal residence to obtain your learner’s permit. You must also pass the written test and a vision test and pay the $22 fee. Your parent or legal guardian must also be present and provide identification. If you have any medical conditions, you must also complete a medical packet. The written test is 40 multiple choice questions about road rules, traffic signs, highway warnings and vehicle laws. You must pass with a 75 percent or higher. There are practice tests available online.Once you have your permit (temporary instruction permit identification card), you may begin driver’s Ed. Until you are 16 years old, you can only drive with a licensed parent, guardian or driving instructor. At age 16, you may drive with any licensed driver aged 21 or older in the seat next to you. You may not drive between midnight and 6 am unless you are with a parent or guardian until you are 18 years old.Driver’s Ed consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of driving with a certified instructor. To get your intermediate driver’s license, you must have completed at least 50 hours of driving, 10 of which is night driving. You must submit a Fifty Hour Affidavit certified by your parent or guarding to obtain your intermediate driver’s license.After having your learner’s permit for at least a year and being under age 18, you still may not drive between 1 am and 5 am unless it’s for a work, school or church event. After age 18, your intermediate license becomes a full driver’s license with no restrictions.

- Take every free Ohio temps practice test and Ohio practice BMV test that you can. This site has a huge repository of questions that can be taken on a computer or on a mobile device, so there’s no excuse not to regularly take practice tests to improve your scoring.
- During the test you’ll want to take your time. There’s no award for being the first one done, so make sure you carefully read each question so you know exactly what’s being asked.
- Keep cool. Yes, there’s a lot riding on the test, but don’t let your nerves get the best of you if you hit one or two questions you’re not sure of. Use the process of elimination to narrow down your answers and make an educated guess. Getting a couple of questions wrong won’t stop you from getting your license so keep cool and keep your eye on the prize.
