How To Get A Wisconsin Motorcycle License
Anyone who wants to drive a motorcycle in the state of Wisconsin must have the proper licensing to do so. This requires passing both a knowledge and skills test to ensure you are a competent and safe driver - which you will then earn a class "M" on your license. These tests aren't necessarily difficult but do require a bit of studying to pass. Instructional permits allow for the driving of a motorcycle with some restrictions at night. Aside from passing the knowledge portion of the exam and a vision screening, persons aged 16 to 17 must have a sponsor, proof of Driver's Ed completion, and have passed a Basic Motorcycle Rider Course. If you have just moved to or thinking about moving to Wisconsin and have your motorcycle license from another state you should be able to get it transferred over with no problem. You have 60 days from the date you begin your residency to transfer your motorcycle endorsement or license. Contact the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation to find the nearest location to begin your transfer. If you’re still new to motorcycles and don’t think you have what it takes to pass either the knowledge or skills test don’t worry. Accredited classes are available throughout the state of Wisconsin and provide both in-class study sessions along with hands-on demonstrations. Once you pass one of these classes, you’ll be given a certificate of completion that you can then give to your DMV - with this proof they will be able to waive any testing typically done there. To sign up for a class look through the list of certified rider courses and contact the one closest to you.
