How To Get A New Jersey Motorcycle License
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) requires that anyone who is interested in riding a motorcycle in the state, undergo testing to earn their motorcycle endorsement on their license. Applicants can earn their endorsement either by passing a Basic Rider Course approved by the state, or by passing the knowledge test and motorcycle road test. Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to take the Basic Rider Course with no exceptions.
If you have already taken a knowledge and on cycle motorcycle road test in another state and have an official motorcycle license, you may be exempt from taking additional tests to get your New Jersey motorcycle endorsement. More information can be found by contacting your local MVC using the link above.
New Jersey MVC has certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) courses that allow applicants to learn the rules of the road and how to operate a motorcycle with a hands-on instructor. Students of all skill levels can sign up for a training class and if they successfully pass, may be able to waive their road test. These courses are offered at 15 different locations throughout the state and are taught by certified instructors. Check out their class times and register here.

New Jersey Motorcycle License Test Tips
This site is designed to assist you in preparing for the knowledge exam that you’ll need to pass in order to schedule your on-cycle road test. This exam is to test your knowledge on how to safely operate a motorcycle and to make sure you are ready to take on New Jersey roads. Some types of questions that you might see on the test are related to how to properly use motorcycle gear, actions you should take when riding your motorcycle, and how to carry cargo or passengers.
You can expect this portion of the test to take about 15-20 minutes. An examiner will ask you to perform certain actions when operating a motorcycle so be sure to pay close attention. This test may be a combination of demonstrating your maneuvering skills in real traffic and on an obstacle course set up by the MVC. The examiner will be scoring you on how you turn, adjust speeds, and control the vehicle. After you have passed your knowledge test and have held your permit for 20 days, you can schedule the road test at your local MVC location.
