Motorcycle License

How To Get A Nevada Motorcycle License

Interested in getting a motorcycle (Class M) driver license in Nevada? If so, you can get one by successfully passing Nevada’s DMV motorcycle written and skills test. These exams will test your ability to safely operate a motorcycle on state roads. As an alternative, if you successfully complete a certified course by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), your written and skills test will be waived. Anyone who is under the age of 18 will also need to complete an approved course or successfully pass both the DMV motorcycle knowledge and on-cycle skills test. These tests examine your ability to understand the rules of the road and safely operate a motorcycle in Nevada.

If you are new to the state and looking to transfer your existing motorcycle license to Nevada, you will be exempt from taking a knowledge and on-cycle skills test. Nevada transfers Class M licenses from most other states. For more information on what you need to do this, can be found on Nevada’s DMV website.

Western Nevada College provides motorcycle courses that allow riders of all skill levels to learn basic motorcycle controls, street riding skills, and maneuvers with a skilled motorcycle instructor. If a student successfully passes this course, they will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) completion card that they can use to waive their written and on-cycle skills test so that they can obtain a class M driver’s license. This is a great alternative for those who learn better through hands on training. Interested students can view classes and schedules on their website.

Nevada Motorcycle License Test Tips

This site will help you to prepare for the Nevada motorcycle knowledge exam that tests your understanding of the rules of the road while operating a motorcycle.  This portion of the exam will have questions based on topics such as the distance you should keep between other vehicles, carrying passengers and cargo, and how to turn at intersections and busy streets. It’s important that you take your time studying for the knowledge test because you will need to pass this portion before scheduling your on-cycle skills test.

The Nevada on-cycle skills test examiners may have you demonstrate your operating skills on a motorcycle while in traffic or on an obstacle course created by the DMV. Your examiner will ask you to perform things such as braking and turning, adjusting your speed on a bike, and maneuvering through traffic. You want to make sure that you are taking safe and smart approaches as you take your on-cycle skills test. You can schedule your Nevada DMV on-cycle skills test here.
