kentucky CDL License Test Tips
General knowledge tests for Class B and C driver applicants are comprised of 50 questions. Those applying for a Class A CDL are required to complete the initial 50 questions as well as 20 additional questions about combinations. Each endorsement requires the applicant to complete a separate knowledge assessment. Endorsements for Doubles/Triples, School Bus, Tank, and Passenger Transport are comprised of 20 questions. The Hazardous Materials Endorsement requires a 30 question test. Lastly, the removal of the Air Brake Restriction is comprised of 25 questions. All assessments must be passed with a score of 80 percent or better.
All applicants will need to take a skills test that assesses their ability to operate their intended vehicle. Once applicants receive their Kentucky CDL permit after completing the knowledge assessment(s), they may apply for the skills test 14 days later. The skills test is comprised of three different parts that will all be assessed in one testing session. These areas include the pre-trip inspection, basic control skills, and driving test. All applicants must successfully show their skills in all three of these areas to be considered eligible for their CDL.
