delaware CDL License Test Tips

Delaware residents must complete, at the minimum, one knowledge test to be considered eligible for a CDL. Depending on the Class and the Endorsements that are sought, individuals may have to undergo additional testing. All tests must be passed with a score of 80 percent or more. General knowledge tests for Class B and C drivers are 50 questions. Those seeking their Class A will have 50 general knowledge questions with an additional 20 questions about combination driving. Endorsements and the Air Brake Restriction Removal require additional knowledge tests that are between 20 and 30 questions each.Once an individual passes their knowledge test they are given a commercial learning permit (CLP). After waiting 14 days, the holder can take their skills test. This is a three part test that assesses the individual’s ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle. The test includes a pre-trip inspection, a driving test, and a basic controls test. All three parts must be successfully passed for the applicant to be eligible for their CDL. If applying for a special endorsement, the individual must take their test in the vehicle the endorsement is for.
