How To Get A New Mexico Motorcycle License
Operating a motorcycle in New Mexico requires you to obtain a motorcycle (W, Y, or Z) endorsement on your license. This means that you’ll need to successfully pass a knowledge test and a road test conducted by the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) of New Mexico. You can get your road test waived if you decide to take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse instead. Any person who is 13-18 years old will need to complete a Basic RiderCourse successfully in order to be issued a Motorcycle license with a Y or Z endorsement. These tests are to ensure that the operator of a motorcycle knows all of the road laws and will ride diligently and safely on the roads of New Mexico.
The New Mexico Motorcycle Safety Program offers motorcycle applicants the option to take a Basic RiderCourse that are for motorcyclists of all skill levels. In these courses, riders will be able to improve their skills and learn to operate a motorcycle safely with a certified RiderCoach. Anyone who successfully passes this course will have their road test waived by the MVD of New Mexico. You can view their locations and class schedule on their website.
If you are a new resident to New Mexico and already have a motorcycle license from another state, you may be exempt from taking the knowledge and road test again. You can view more information on New Mexico’s MVD website for additional information.
