The first step you need to take before you go for your motorcycle endorsement is to study. Our practice tests are based on the ones you’ll take at the DMV with one exception, in that you can take them as many times as you like. This test works best when used in conjunction with the Idaho Motorcycle Operator’s Manual, which can be picked up at your local DMV or downloaded here. After you read through the entire manual go ahead and take the test. Whatever answers you get wrong to make sure to read that section through and then retake our test as many times as it takes to get it perfect. Click the "Start Test" button below to begin.

Motorcycle License

How To Get an Idaho Motorcycle License

Operating a motorcycle safely requires a special set of knowledge and skills. In order to prove you are up to snuff, you'll need to have a motorcycle license. Think of this license as an upgrade to a normal driver's license which is a class A, B, C, or D, that has the "M" endorsement. In order to get this endorsement in Idaho, you must pass both a knowledge and skills portion of an exam. If you feel you are unable to pass the on-cycle skills test there is no need to worry as there is a motorcycle instruction permit. This permit is valid for 180 days and allows no freeway or night riding. Those under the age of 21 will be required to pass a motorcycle training course before applying for the skills test.

If you are moving to Idaho from another state your endorsement can transfer if it hasn't been expired for more than one year. Just visit your local Idaho DMV and:s (DMV) driver licensing office and:

  • Surrender your out-of-state license
  • Submit proof of identity and residency
  • Social security number
  • Pass the written and skills tests
  • Pay the licensing fees

If you are completely new to motorcycles or just in sore need of a refresher than the Idaho Department of Transportation has you covered with their motorcycle safety courses. These classes give hands-on-training that help improves your skills and greatly increase your safety. Called the Idaho Star, you can expect a wide range of classes with everything from novice to experienced riders covered. Once one of these classes are passed you are given a motorcycle endorsement that proves you are legal to ride on the road with your bike.

Idaho Motorcycle License Test Tips

Before you can get on that motorcycle you have to prove you know how these machines operate. The knowledge portion of the exam sets out to test that by quizzing you on everything related to motorcycle operation, basic traffic rules, and what techniques you need to do to be considered a safe driver. If you use this website to its fullest you can be sure you’ll be able to get a passing grade on this part of the exam easily. There are 25 questions on this test of which you must get 80%, which is a total of 20, correct.

The next part of the exam is showing that you are capable of riding a motorcycle for real. The on-cycle skills test takes all your diligence practicing and proves to the state of Idaho that you can drive a motorcycle safely. You will be teamed up with an examiner and taken to a course where you must provide a motorcycle and the proper safety gear. They will then quiz you through basic but necessary driving skills like turning, swerving, braking, accelerating, and much more. This skills test is not directly through a government entity but rather through accredited third parties. To get a full list of examiners in your area get in contact with your local DMV or look here and here.
