How To Get A Missouri Commercial Drivers License

All applicants must be of the legal age of 18 years old or older to apply for their intrastate CDL privileges. In order to participate in interstate driving and obtain a HazMat Endorsement, the applicant must be 21 years old or older.

All applicants must have a certified medical examiner’s certificate to be eligible for a CDL.

Any applicants that fall into any of the below descriptions are disqualified from obtaining their Missouri CDL.

  • Any driver who has restricted CDL driving privileges in another state.
  • Any driver who has a valid driver’s license from another state.
  • Any driver who’s license is currently suspended, revoked, or canceled.

All Missouri residents are required to complete both knowledge tests and skills tests in order to receive their CDL.

Missouri CDL License Test Tips

All applicants must pass a knowledge test to receive their CDL. Class B and C applicants must pass a 50 question exam. Class A applicants must pass a 70 question exam which includes questions about combinations. All endorsements require an additional knowledge assessment specific to the endorsement sought. Applicants must pass all required knowledge tests with a score of 80 percent or more.

In addition to the knowledge test(s), applicants will be required to pass a three-part practice skills test. This is a hands-on assessment of the applicant’s skills in pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving. All three parts of the assessment must be passed in order for the applicant to receive their CDL.
