Drivers License

How To Get A Nevada Drivers License

Nevada drivers have a two-step graduated driver licensing program. Any and all first-time drivers must start with a learner’s permit, and graduate to a full license. To obtain a learner’s permit, you must be fifteen and six months old and submit a Verification of School Attendance form in a sealed envelope. The school principal or a school official must fill out the first section of the form before it is handed in. You will need to turn this form in until you are eighteen, and if you are excused from school, a parent must fill out section two. Any applicant that is under eighteen must have a parent or guardian co-sign the form. Every applicant must submit lawful status, proof of identity, and a social security number with their Nevada residency proof. To apply for your learner’s permit (also known as an instruction permit), you must pass the vision and written tests and have a parent or guardian sign the financial responsibility section on the application. A $26 testing fee will be charged before the written exam, and this fee covers both the written test and the initial skills test. An $11 retest fee will apply to all retakes. The minimum level of acceptable vision is 20/40 in one eye, and the knowledge test consists of 50 multiple-choice questions based on the Nevada Driver’s Handbook. A passing score is 80% or better. The licensing fee is an additional $23.25.You may drive only with a licensed driver, 21 years or older, with at least one year of driving experience seated next to you at all times, and they may not have a cell phone in use while they’re driving. Nevada beginning drivers under 18 must complete a driver education course. You may take courses offered by a public or private high school or a DMV-licensed professional drive school. The course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction, with ten additional hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. To obtain your full license, you must complete 50 hours of supervised, documented driving with 10 of those hours being night hours. Passing the driving skills test will give you your full license. If you’re new to Nevada, you have 30 days to switch your license over. Go to your DMV office in person with proof of identity, social security card, Nevada residency, and surrender your old license. There is also a written and vision exam, and road skills test that must be taken and passed to get your new license.
